Touring Spirit Bear

                                                            "Touching Spirit Bear"

" Why would I want to take care of a dumb cat,"Cole said. This quote shows that cole only thinks about himself and doesn't care what other people have to say, but later on in the book Cole changes he just doesn't care about himself he cares about the people around him too . In the book " Touching Spirit Bear" written by Ben Mikaelsen Cole beats up a kid named Peter and gets in trouble with the law. He is sent to a detention centre, but later on in the book he doesn't want to go to jail so he had a chose to go to an island. At the island he burns down the cabin and gets attacked by a white bear also known as " The Spirit Bear." As the story goes on Cole shows to be self centrer until he gets a wake up call and realizes what he needs to change.

In the story Cole is kid who gets in to trouble and doesn't want to go to jail so he instead of going to jail he goes to an island where he has a second chance. In the beginning of the story Cole beats up a kid named Peter for ratting him out to the police about a break in that happen to be him who had broke in. Later on in the story he changes, he starts to think about others and not just about himself.

In the middle of the book Cole is very brave because he gets mauled by the "spirit bear" on the island. Then later on near the end of the book Cole decides  to go back to the island to spend his full year there even after he was mauled by the bear on that island.  His reasoning for going back to the island was so he could redeem himself and show that he can change for the better. No matter what else he had to go through.

Throughout the book Cole tends to struggle with how he feels, and turns to violence for help. During the book every time Cole would get angry he would lash out, and hit or kick something.  He shows this when he first gets to the island and after he gets mauled by the bear.

Now you know what happens to Cole and you know more about him like how he was self centered, brave, and how he struggled with his words. Cole changes from the start of the book to end of the book. This is a quote that Garvey says at the very end of the book " Could this be because every part of a circle is both a beginning and end and everything is one?" Garvey says this because thats what Cole tried to tell him at the end of the book when he carves his circle in his totem pole. Cole has changed from the beginning of book to the end, now he is a much better person and likes to help others and he thinks about others before himself.
